Spinneys has worked with Siam Oriental since 2011 and we are the only store in this region to stock its high-quality produce. The company has over 20 years’ experience in fruit processing.

A husband and wife team runs the show and they are committed to supporting a large network of around 230 farms across the country, a number of which are also family run. Any fruit that doesn’t make the grade goes to local wholesale markets to help minimise food waste and support the local community.


Siam Oriental is based in Nakhon si Thammarat on the eastern edge of Southern Thailand, where temperatures average in the low-to-mid-30s and the humidity rarely drops below 80 per cent. These tropical conditions mean its mangosteens grow in abundance and out of the traditional cycle. Siam Oriental picks the fruit at the half-ripe stage so when it reaches us, it is in perfect eating condition. Fruit is inspected by hand, based on size, colour and shape, to make sure it meets the high standards set by the company.

The business is certified under the Department of Agriculture G.A.P (Good Agricultural Practices) and each of its growers are coded to guarantee full traceability of the produce.

When choosing your mangosteens, look out for ones with dark skins – they’re the sweetest.

For a light dessert, we recommend topping coconut sorbet with floral, perfumed peeled mangosteens and adding a scattering of crushed ginger biscuits.
