What Is 5 A Day?
Eating 5 portions of fruit and vegetables per day is one of the most important aspects of a healthy diet. Research has shown that these nutritious foods are very beneficial to our overall health and well-being. 5 a day is based on advice from the World Health Organisation which recommends eating a minimum of 400g of fruit and vegetables each day to help lower the risk of health problems such as heart disease, stroke, obesity, type 2 diabetes and some cancers. Try to include as wide a variety of fruit and vegetables as possible, as different ones contain different combinations of vitamins, minerals, fibre and other nutrients.
