Pretty Pollly manager, Doris Jane Alcordo, gives us her expert advice.

How do you get the best cleaning results on different flooring?
For tiles, always sweep and vacuum floors. Mop them with warm water and a vinegar mix. Heavy stains require customised products. Wood flooring options depend completely on the type of wood but after a sweep/vacuum most respond well to a damp mop with light-strength dish washing liquid. Marble floors can be cleaned with a highly diluted mixture of ammonia and water or with a highly diluted mixture of dish soap and not more than 125ml per bucket of water.

What’s the best way to clean Venetian blinds?
Vinegar with a water solution sprayed on an old cotton sock makes cleaning blinds easy. Using a sock to clean the blinds protects your hand in case the blinds are sharp.

How can I get streak-free windows?
First, dampen a squeegee with warm water and dishwashing liquid, then clean from the top down, wiping the edge of the squeegee after every stroke. Dry with a clean microfibre cloth (if necessary).

How and when should air conditioning filters be cleaned?
The filter of a room air conditioner should be cleaned every 90 days to ensure an unrestricted airflow. You can wash the filter with warm soapy water and run a little bicarbonate of soda over it before rinsing to remove any odours.

What is the best way to remove carpet stains?
This depends on the stain but always address the ‘spill/crisis’ immediately. Use 50ml of white vinegar and a tbsp of dish soap diluted with water. Spray the area liberally and let it soak for 5-10 minutes. Blot with a clean absorbent cloth until the stain is removed. Remember to just dab and gently attend to the stain.

What are the top five cleaning products everyone should have
in their cupboard?
White vinegar, baking soda, dishwashing liquid, microfibre cloths and a steam gun.
